File Transfer Protocol (FTP) in Macintosh

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) on Macintosh:

- First, you need to obtain an FTP program.
- We suggest Fetch for Macintosh.
- Download Fetch by clicking on the link above and follow the installation instructions.
  1. Open Fetch from the directory you installed it to.
  2. You will be prompted to enter a New Connection.
    • Host: ftp.w-link.net
    • User ID: your username
    • Password: your password
    • Directory: /home/yourusername/public_html
    • Click OK to connect.
  3. To upload files, click on Put File..., select the file you want to upload, and click Open.
  4. To download files, click on the file you want to download and click on Get File. You will be prompted to specify where to save the file; choose the directory you want to keep it and click Save.
  5. Be sure to leave the radio button set to Automatic, not Text or Binary.
  6. See the picture below for a sample of what Fetch looks like.

For Domain Name Clients:

Use the same directions above, but substitute the following information:

  • Host: www.w-link.net
  • Directory: /httpd/htdocs/yourdomain
